 2016 Preview 


       With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region 1, the Saints earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. The Saints reeled off five straight playoff wins to capture the Class 5A State Championship in 2015 by defeating Mortimer Jordan at the Alabama Super Seven 41-26 in Tuscaloosa.

       Over the past two seasons the Saints have gone 28-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, St. Paul's has gone a combined 70-12. Their 85.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 5A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, St. Paul's has gone a combined 218-83. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 5A and 22nd in the AHSAA.

       The Saints are led by head coach Steve Mask who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 49-8 over the past four seasons at St. Pauls. Under his direction the Saints have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Mask.

       Coach Mask's overall record as a head football coach in nineteen seasons stands at 149-81 (64.8%). His 149 wins rank 24th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Mask's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won six region championships.

       St. Paul's enters the 2016 season with a string of 18 consecutive wins on their home field at E.E. Delaney Field.

      The St. Paul's Saints will play in Class 5A region 1 during the 2016 season.

       The Saints enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region 1 and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 5A Super Seven come December.

       The Saints open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Fairhope on Friday, August 19 at E.E. Delaney Field. Last year the Fairhope Pirates finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 7A region 1. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Theodore by a score of 28-21.

       St. Paul's and Fairhope have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Saints have a 9-5-0 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2016 with St. Paul's winning by a score of 41-14.

       St. Paul's returns 5A All-State Senior defensive lineman Ryan Johnson. He was named to the second team last season.
